Eleanor & Park Review

Title: Eleanor & Park
Author: Rainbow Rowell
Source: Library
Challenge: Standalone Challenge

Goodreads Summary & Cover:

"Bono met his wife in high school," Park says."So did Jerry Lee Lewis," Eleanor answers."I’m not kidding," he says."You should be," she says, "we’re sixteen.""What about Romeo and Juliet?""Shallow, confused, then dead."''I love you," Park says."Wherefore art thou," Eleanor answers."I’m not kidding," he says."You should be."

Set over the course of one school year in 1986, ELEANOR AND PARK is the story of two star-crossed misfits – smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love – and just how hard it pulled you under.

Thoughts:
Eleanor & Park is just...everything! I have been seeing so much praise for this book, so I just had to pick up a copy. I am so glad that I did! Eleanor & Park had me feeling every single emotion. There was laughter, hard laughter with snorting, pity, hatred, embarrassment, sadness, sympathy, relief, and hope.

From this point, I really have no other way to express my love for Eleanor & Park. It was just amazing!

Eleanor had a rough life. It took pretty much the whole book for her to be more open with Park about her family situation. And the way that Park's dad welcomed her and the things he did...so amazing! I love that Tom Selleck look-a-like man!

The growth of Park through this story was great! He started out a quiet, keep to himself kind of guy. The embarrassment he felt when Eleanor first rode the bus to the end of the book, he was a completely different guy.

I loved the way Rainbow had all of the insecurities for both of the characters. Ahhh, first love! Always so awkward.

Rating:
