Reading Road Trip: Nebraska

Welcome to the Second Annual READING ROAD TRIP
Thanks to Britta (ILikeTheseBooks) and Hafsah (IceyBooks) for hosting this fun hop again this summer!

Make sure you visit the states before mine and watch for the rest of the month! Each state will be represented! Keep track here!

Welcome to Nebraska, the Cornhusker State!

  • Origin of the Name Nebraska - The name Nebraska is from an Oto Indian word that means "flat water" (referring to the Platte River, which means "flat river" in French).
  • Kool-Aid was created in Hastings, Nebraska in 1927.
  • Warren Buffett was born in Omaha, Nebraska.
  • Arbor Day was founded by J. Sterling Morton and the National Arbor Day Foundation is located near his home in Nebraska City.
  • Although born in Virginia, Willa Cather was raised in Nebraska and attended The University of Nebraska.
  • Rainbow Rowell is a native of Nebraska.
This last fact brings me to...
Rainbow Rowell book facts and a GIVEAWAY!

Rainbow Rowell is hot, hot, HOT right now! Her first YA book, Eleanor & Park, has made it to the hands of a lot of readers. Those readers have been adoring it!

Rainbow also has one other book currently out in the wild: Attachments. This is an adult book, her first to be published.

She also has a third book coming out in September, her second YA book, called Fangirl. I will be reviewing Fangirl here on my blog soon!

Her fourth book, another adult book, is due in 2014. The title of that one will be Landline.
For this giveaway, one winner will get to choose a Rainbow Rowell book as his/her prize! This is an International giveaway, as long as The Book Depository ships to your location.

Attachments or Eleanor & Park will ship ASAP, but Fangirl will be a pre-order and ship after the release date in September.

As with all of my giveaways, you need to be 13+ and enter the Rafflecopter with one account. No cheating or I shall look at you with sad eyes and disqualify your entries. Don't be that kind of person about a book! Please.

The giveaway begins today, July 21 and will end at 11:59 PM on July 31. A winner will be randomly chosen from the Rafflecopter entries and emailed. The winner will have 48 hours to respond to my email. If no response, a new winner will be selected.

Reading Road Trip: North Carolina

Welcome to the Second Annual READING ROAD TRIP
Thanks to Britta (ILikeTheseBooks) and Hafsah (IceyBooks) for hosting this fun hop again this summer!

Make sure you visit the states before mine and watch for the rest of the month! Each state will be represented! Keep track here! Make sure to visit my sister state tomorrow with Jessica Brooks (@coffeelvnmom and author of Pity Isn't an Option) at Let Me Tell You a Story.

Now, welcome to my beautiful state, North Carolina -- the "Tar Heel State." This is the land of sweet tea, biscuits, and NASCAR. Y'all enjoy my stop!

North Carolina definitely boasts some talented and wonderful authors. In the North Carolina YA world, we have the following who represent us well:
I'm sure I'm missing names. I would love to know of other North Carolina Young Adult authors! Leave me a comment if you know of more!
North Carolina is divided into three regions: Coastal, Piedmont, and Mountain.

Coastal Region:
Kure Beach & Wilmington, NC -- Our favorite vacation spots!

Piedmont Region:
Each state has their own college rivalry. Our biggest is Duke vs. UNC. It's insane here during game seasons, but especially basketball.

Charlotte...my area! I live in the next city just west of Charlotte, but this is the skyline I see while driving around and where we go for any good entertainment.

Mountain Region:
This checker board is in Valle Crucis (near Boone) at the Mast General Store. Mast stores aren't plentiful, but they are popular! They're located in our mountain region, as well as one in Tennessee and one in South Carolina.

Nantahala River & the Biltmore Estate are 2 popular sites to visit in the mountains.
Now, for the giveaway...errr...giveaways! I will be giving away a YA book to represent each of our beautiful regions.
Yes. There will be THREE different winners for my stop!
  • To represent the Coastal region, the winner may choose one book from Jennifer L. Armentrout's Covenant series (Half-Blood, Pure, Deity, or Apollyon). Deity Island is located off from the Outer Banks!
  • To represent the Piedmont region, the winner may choose any book by author Sarah Dessen. Sarah lives in Chapel Hill, which is located in the Piedmont.
  • To represent the Mountain region, the winner will win a copy of J.K. Rock's Camp Boyfriend. The setting of the summer camp is located in our beautiful mountains!
The North Carolina giveaways will run July 9-23.

As always, all entrants must be 13 years of age or older and are able to receive shipment from The Book Depository. These are International giveaways!

You may enter 1, 2, or all 3 of the giveaways! Completely up to you and your reading tastes! These are some amazing books up for grabs. Good luck!

This giveaway begins on July 12 and will end on July 27.

The book up for grabs for this section of the Reading Road Trip is winner's choice of Myra McEntire's HOURGLASS or TIMEPIECE! Hourglass takes place in Tennessee, but I haven't read Timepiece yet to see if it continues in that setting. Anyone help me out?  :)

Good luck!

Welcome to the "Tar Heel State" part of the Reading Road Trip!!!

North Carolina definitely boasts some talented and wonderful authors. In the North Carolina YA world, we have the following who represent us VERY well:
Jenna Black, Sarah Dessen, Kelly Keaton, Megan Miranda, Stephanie Perkins, Beth Revis, and Carrie Ryan (I'm sure I'm missing names! I would love to know of other YA NC writers!)

Now, as part of this stop on the Road Trip, I would love to offer up TWO Sarah Dessen novels. There will be TWO winners - ONE book each. We all probably know that her covers have recently received a makeover and I would like to help someone start their Dessen library...either new or refreshing it!

The North Carolina giveaway will run July 9-27.

This is an International giveaway since The Book Depository does seem to have all of the new covers in stock. (What Happened to Goodbye is the only one that didn't get a new cover, I believe)

As always, all entrants must be 13 years of age or older and are able to receive shipment from The Book Depository.

Thanks to Britta (ILikeTheseBooks) and Hafsah (IceyBooks) for hosting this fun hop!

Welcome to the "Mountain State" part of the Reading Road Trip!!!

Currently, the hottest character from a book resides in West Virginia. West Virginia is also home to the author who created this so very swoon-worthy character. I am, of course, referring to Jennifer L. Armentrout and her character, Daemon Black, from The Lux Series.

I know the blogosphere has been a very busy place recently discussing this series and Jennifer. Well, sign me up to help get more Daemon Black out into the world!

For this stop on the Reading Road Trip, one person will be the sole winner of a paperback copy of Obsidian and a paperback PRE-ORDER of Onyx (released August 14)!!!
