Books That Need More Attention Giveaway Hop

Well, hello friends! It has been such a long time since I've really posted anything here on my blog. It's especially been a long time since I've done a giveaway! I am excited to be participating in the Books That Need More Attention Hop hosting by Val at Stuck in Books.

I happened to have been reading Sarah Alderson's The Sound when I saw this hop's signup go live. It is a perfect book, in my opinion, that fits this category!

About the Book
A British nanny looking for a low-key summer finds buried secrets, murderous attention, and unexpected romance when she visits the Nantucket Sound.

The Nantucket Sound is a beachfront playground for the privileged and elite, where the sunny days are filled with scenic bike rides, backyard picnics, and bonfire parties.

But all Ren Kingston, a visiting Brit still reeling from heartbreak, really wants is a quiet summer as a nanny for one of Nantucket's wealthy families. Getting acquainted with handsome Jeremy and his young group of trust fund, private school kids was not part of the plan. Neither was befriending the local bad boy whose reputation is more dangerous than charming.

After a dead body is found next to The Sound's postcard-perfect view, Ren starts to wonder where the real threat lies. Because it's becoming clear that her newfound "friends" are much more than they seem. They're hiding secrets. Secrets that Ren wants no part of.

But once The Sound has you in its current, it won't want to let you go.
A group of us read this book as an online "book club" and we all fell in love with it! We enjoyed guessing and having theories. The Sound keeps you on your toes though the whole book. You will LOVE it! It earned 5 stars from me, by the way!

The Giveaway
For this hop, I have a copy of The Sound up for grabs. This is an International giveaway, as long as The Book Depository ships to your location.

The Rules
  • Entrants must be 13 years or older.
  • The Rafflecopter closes at Midnight on October 15. The winner will be notified on October 15.
  • The winner must respond to email within 48 hours.
  • This giveaway is for one book for one winner.
  • International entries accepted (The Book Depository must ship to your country, of course...)

Cover Reveal: Kissing Frogs

If there is ever a book title that is a perfect tie-in to my life, this is it! I couldn't resist doing this reveal. The cover is 100% cuteness and the synopsis is right up my alley.

Without further ado, Kissing Frogs!

Release Date: 11/18/14
Swoon Romance

Summary from Goodreads
Popular party girl and high school senior Jessica Scott has a secret: she used to be a nerd — a big one; a goody two-shoes, grade-skipping, all-state spelling bee champ. But she lost the braces, put on some contacts, and applied all her academic genius to studying and imitating the social elite. Now she rules the school from the upper echelon of the high school realm. With her cool new friends and hottest-guy-in-school boyfriend, life’s a beach — and that’s where she’s headed for Spring Break. That is, until her teacher breaks the bad news that she’s failing Biology — and her only chance to make up the grade is to throw away the culminating trip of her hard-earned popularity and join the Conservation Club in Panama to save the Golden Frog.

Unable to let go of her faded college dreams, Jess finds herself in a foreign country with a new social crew, and one handsome face that stands out as a blast from the past, threatening to ruin her queen bee reputation. Travis Henley may have grown up, but he still likes to play childish games and as payment for retrieving Jess’ lost ring from the bottom of a jungle pool, he wants three dates. While Jess does battle with spiders, snakes, wildfires and smart mean girls, she desperately tries to hang on to the last vestiges of her popular existence like the Golden Frog from its webbed toe. But as she starts to care about something more than tanning and texting – a species on the verge of disappearing forever – she may realize the worth of her inner nerd, and the one frog in particular that could be her prince in disguise.

Set in the lush and tropical El Valle de Anton, this modern fairytale re-imagining of “The Frog Prince” is toe-curling contemporary romance with an environmentalist heartbeat, in the tradition of Stephanie Perkins.

August Moon: Tour w/ Giveaway

August Moon
by Tammy Morea
Release Date: May 2014

Summary from Goodreads

What do you do when the one who broke your heart is the only one who can fix it?

There is nothing in this world stronger than the powerful emotion of being in love. Except maybe the paralyzing pain of a broken heart.

Moving to a small unfamiliar beach town in the summer before her senior year of high school is really going to suck. Raven, a black-haired beauty from a well-off family, was certain about that. Miserable in her circumstance's, nothing could convince her otherwise, until Raven meets Quinn, a local with a love for surfing and a bad reputation to go with it. Despite the very different worlds they live in, their desire for each other is undeniable. Raven's fears and misery start to vanish as she and Quinn fall deeper and deeper into each other.

But things change drastically when Raven is unknowingly used as a pawn in a turn of disastrous events caused by Quinn's older brother.

The events that follow could silence Raven's heart for eternity and completely destroy what's left of Quinn’s soul.

August Moon is a captivating story of young love bringing two unlikely hearts together only to be shattered by one tortuous decision putting these star-crossed lovers on course for the ultimate challenge of forgiveness.
About the Author

  • I am a Young Adult Author. My first novel, August Moon, will be released in late spring 2014. Besides writing, I love to read Romance, YA, Chick Lit, Fantasy, Paranormal and a good autobiography never hurt anyone.
  • My other greatest passion is animals. I wish I could save every single one that needs saving. I love them all, but I have a weakness for dogs. I have a dog Tank. He's my heart and he's a big mush. I bite his face all day long and he lets me.
  • I also love mini pigs. One day I will have one. My fiancé Chris doesn't think so, but what does he know?
  • I think I’m an amateur photographer, but really I just like to take pictures and sometimes they come out really good.
  • I love riding on the back of Chris’s Harley. It's my favorite form of transportation.
  • I’m obsessed with the Twilight Saga. Those books literally changed my life.
  • Tattoos are sexy. I have seven.
  • I pretty much love anything with a skull on it.
  • My thumb is very green...just ask my air plants.
  • I can cook my ass off...just ask Chris.
  • I enjoy being active in all different ways: hiking, biking, camping, taking Tank for a 3 mile walk, working out, or sitting on the couch all day catching up on my DVR recordings.
  • I love to dress up and wear make-up, accessories, (I have a ring addiction that I think I might need some counseling for) and heels, but I can get dirty on a camping trip or hang out in my sweats and a tee all day. I will even walk Tank in PJ's with no make-up on. Yep, you heard me: PJ's, no make-up, outside in public.
  • I come from a big crazy Italian family and I wouldn't have it any other way.
  • And just because I want to give her props, I think Marilyn Monroe is the sexiest, hottest, bad-ass bitch in the history of bitches (bitches meaning all us girls).

Alex has big plans for camp this year, starting with making it the best summer ever. Having fun and breaking some rules will get her the payback she wants against her parents and her ex-boyfriend. Because of his disgusting texts, she's headed to a super strict all-girls school in the fall. Then she meets Javier and revenge doesn't seem nearly as important as getting to know the troubled loner determined to keep a low profile at camp. But Alex's trouble-magnet personality and Javier's need to stay in the background don't mix nearly as well as their irresistible chemistry. With her home life eroding under her feet and her last year of summer camp speeding to a close, Alex wants to make her mark on the world and squeeze every bit of fun out of her time with Javier. Too bad her old plans for revenge turn back on her just in time to ruin everything. Will she lose Javier too?

The summer of her dreams is about to get a reality check.

They said it couldn't be done, but geeky sophomore Lauren Carlson transformed herself into a popular girl after moving to a new school halfway across the country. Amazing what losing her braces and going out for cheerleading will do. Only trouble is, the popular crowd is wearing on Lauren's nerves and she can't wait to return to summer camp where she's valued for her brain instead of her handsprings. She misses her old friends and most of all, her long time camp-only boyfriend, Seth. This year she intends to upgrade their relationship to year-round status once she's broken up with her new, jock boyfriend, Matt. He doesn't even begin to know the real her, a girl fascinated by the night sky who dreams of discovering new planets and galaxies.

What if the guy she thought she was meant to be with forever isn't really The One? Returning to Camp Juniper Point was supposed to ground her uprooted life, but she's more adrift than ever. As summer tensions escalate, Lauren wonders if she's changed more than she thought. Will her first big discovery be herself?

Fragile Line: Review w/ Giveaway

Tour hosted by YA Bound Book Tours
Blog Tour Schedule
Title: Fragile Line
Author: Brooklyn Skye
Release date: April 21, 2014
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Source: NetGalley/Publisher; also, YA Bound Tours
I am reviewing an ARC of Fragile Line provided for an review. My thoughts are my own and I have not been persuaded in any way.

Cover & Summary
It can happen in a flash. One minute she’s kissing her boyfriend, the next she’s lost in the woods. Sixteen-year-old Ellie Cox is losing time. It started out small…forgetting a drive home or a conversation with a friend. But her blackouts are getting worse, more difficult to disguise as forgetfulness. When Ellie goes missing for three days, waking up in the apartment of a mysterious guy—a guy who is definitely not her boyfriend, her life starts to spiral out of control.

Perched on the edge of insanity, with horrific memories of her childhood leaking in, Ellie struggles to put together the pieces of what she’s lost—starting with the name haunting her, Gwen. Heartbreakingly beautiful, this poignant story follows one girl’s harrowing journey to finding out who she really is.

Thoughts
Well, after reading and finishing Fragile Line, I'm glad I didn't read reviews beforehand. The topic of this book could have easily be given away, taking away much of the mystery and page turning ferocity that I had.

When I read the synopsis, I wasn't exactly sure what was going to happen or what to expect. As I read, I kind of had a guess, but I'm definitely not a psychology person...and not always perceptive. Skye's writing had me swiping eagerly at my Kindle so I could get to the next page as soon as possible. She definitely told a compelling story and created memorable characters.

A three-part book, we saw Ellie, Ellie, and then Gwen. If I were Ellie, I would have been freaking out and telling everyone what the heck was going on. I would be more concerned about waking up somewhere and not knowing what had happened and how long ago it happened than keeping it quiet. It's actually concerning that this situation probably occurs to people and they keep it to themselves. Scary.

The two Ellie sections were good. I felt like giving her [Ellie] a big hug. When we got to the third and final section, Gwen's section, I actually loved her. So much sympathy, compassion, and understanding that I felt. Like I said, I'm not really into the psyche, but Brooklyn Skye weaved a tale that was so believable. So real. So frightening.

Rating
Fragile Line is a good 3 1/2 Mickey read. I liked it and at times, really liked it!

THIS SIDE OF SALVATION
This Side of SalvationEveryone mourns differently.
When his older brother was killed, David got angry. As in, fist-meets-someone-else’s-face furious. But his parents? They got religious. David’s still figuring out his relationship with a higher power, but there’s one thing he does know for sure: The closer he gets to new-girl Bailey, the better, brighter, happier, more he feels.

Then his parents start cutting all their worldly ties in to prepare for the Rush, the divine moment when the faithful will be whisked off to Heaven…and they want David to do the same. David’s torn. There’s a big difference between living in the moment and giving up his best friend, varsity baseball, and Bailey—especially Bailey—in hope of salvation.

But when he comes home late from prom, and late for the Rush, to find that his parents have vanished, David is in more trouble than he ever could have imagined…
