Cindy (Cinderella…shhh, don’t tell) was born a witch. It’s part of who she is. But there’s more to her than that. She loves deeply. And has a big heart. She’d do anything for those she cares about, including risk her own life to save theirs.

When her fairy godmother demands she leave Salem, Massachusetts and return to the land she was born to rule, she has two options. Tell her fairy godmother no, and seal a death sentence on complete strangers. Or, leave all she’s ever known behind, including the love of her life, for an unknown land she’s fated to save.

So, yeah, life sucks.
But Cindy is determined to change that.

Trouble With Toads Book Blast

trouble with toads
Once upon a time a young girl wanted revenge. But first, she wanted to be beautiful.

Twelve-year-old Bettony has read enough stories that begin with ‘Once upon a time’ to know what happens to the ugly stepsisters at the end, and she’s determined to escape that fate by any means necessary—even by magic.

Unfortunately, when it comes to magic, there is no place for regret, refunds, or exchanges. Even if you accidentally turn your older sister into a toad.

If Bettony wants her Happily Ever After to end well, she’s going to have to find a way to turn her sister back into a person before their mother finds out she’s been dabbling with magic and grounds her for life.

Tracking down the family magic turns out to be surprisingly easy. Now, if only it came with directions . . .

THE TROUBLE WITH TOADS (45,000 words) is the first book in a new upper MG series The Secret Stepsister Society. The second book will be released Summer 2013.

Author Danyelle Leafty
danyelleDanyelle Leafty writes upper MG and YA fantasy, and is the author of THE FAIRY GODMOTHER DILEMMA series. Danyelle has always loved fairy tales, and prefers stories where someone gets eaten, or at the very least, transmogrified. Much of her inspiration has come from fairy tales, because as G.K. Chesterton so aptly states, "Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten."

In her spare time, she collects dragons, talking frogs, and fairy godmothers. She also collects books, and one day hopes to make a house out of them. She enjoys learning languages, fiddling with her harp, and perfecting the fine art of mothering. (It's a lot like trying to herd chickens during a lightning storm while a goat stampede is going on.)

One of her heroes is Albert Einstein, particularly for the following quote: "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The most important thing is not to stop questioning."

Review: All I Need

Title: All I Need
Author: Susane Colasanti  Website // Twitter // Facebook // Goodreads
Source: Netgalley e-ARC
Publisher: Penguin/Viking
Pages: 240

Goodreads Summary & Cover:
The last night of summer is only the beginning.

Skye wants to meet the boy who will change her life forever. Seth feels their instant connection the second he sees her. When Seth starts talking to Skye at the last beach party of the summer, it’s obvious to both of them that this is something real. But when Seth leaves for college before they exchange contact info, Skye wonders if he felt the same way she did—and if she will ever see him again. Even if they find their way back to each other, can they make a long-distance relationship work despite trust issues, ex drama, and some serious background differences?

Teen favorite Susane Colasanti returns to the alternating-voice style of her beloved debut When It Happens in this Serendipity-inspired story about summer, soul mates, and the moments that change our lives forever.
Thoughts:
ALL I NEED is a book about girl sees boy, boy sees girl, they have an instant connection. This type of storyline can sometimes often be frustrating. However, it was the perfect and ideal meeting for Skye and Seth. If not for that connection and the day that they spent together, there wouldn't have been a story.

One day together and then an accidental parting, without information exchanged, led to a year of wondering and frustration for our two main characters. Skye was sure that Seth was "the one" and Seth was convinced of the same. Let me tell you, when Skye and Seth met again the following summer at the beach, I grinned from ear to ear! The way that they could joke and get along so well without feeling uncomfortable was amazing! I was quite jealous, actually.

They finally spent time together and seriously fell in love. They promised to call and travel to see each other since they weren't really that far from each other. Skye was still in high school and Seth was in college. They did talk on the phone a lot and traveled to see each other, but just wasn't as often as they thought they would be able to do due to Seth's courses and job.

Their relationship furthers and they manage to see each other when they can. I did appreciate that Colasanti held off on the sex part until after Skye was 18. I thought it was considerate and mature.

As the saying goes, everything changes after sex. Relationships change. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for worse. Skye and Seth hit a rough patch and some issues were brought up: gross roommate, major decisions made without discussing with each other, silly high school drama, money, etc...

When the ending of the book came, I was crying. The ending earned my tears!

I really loved the optimism, true love/soul mate idea, and the want and need to make the relationship work in this story. It was refreshing and honest without being cheesy or unbelievable. It was all just so sweet!

Rating:
Lovely Contemporary read that I was in need of reading. Hopeful and optimistic with lots of humor, 80s references, and some tears.

Review: School Spirits

Title: School Spirits
Author: Rachel Hawkins  Website // Twitter
Source: Netgalley e-ARC
Publisher: Disney Book Group/Hyperion
Pages: 304
Date Released: May 14, 2013

Goodreads Summary & Cover:
Fifteen-year-old Izzy Brannick was trained to fight monsters. For centuries, her family has hunted magical creatures. But when Izzy’s older sister vanishes without a trace while on a job, Izzy's mom decides they need to take a break.

Izzy and her mom move to a new town, but they soon discover it’s not as normal as it appears. A series of hauntings has been plaguing the local high school, and Izzy is determined to prove her worth and investigate. But assuming the guise of an average teenager is easier said than done. For a tough girl who's always been on her own, it’s strange to suddenly make friends and maybe even have a crush.

Can Izzy trust her new friends to help find the secret behind the hauntings before more people get hurt?

Rachel Hawkins' delightful spin-off brings the same wit and charm as the New York Times best-selling Hex Hall series. Get ready for more magic, mystery and romance!
Thoughts:
First of all, let me just say how happy I am that a new Rachel Hawkins book is out for us to read! I enjoyed the Hex Hall series so much and it seems like such a long time has passed since the Hawkins humor and snark have been a part of my life!

Like Hex Hall, I can tell that I am going to enjoy this new series, School Spirits! We met Izzy in the final Hex Hall book, Spellbound. I'm so thankful that the story of Sophie Mercer isn't over, even though she's not active in this new book. She was mentioned a couple of times, but this series is all about Izzy, Sophie's feisty cousin!

The humor is definitely with us through Izzy's first book. The characters in School Spirits were great! The idea of having a "ghost club"...errr..."PMS," absolutely cracked me up and caused a giggle or two when "PMS" was mentioned. Izzy couldn't have stumbled across better friends if she had tried.

Romy, Anderson, and Dex were friends and in this club together. They welcomed Izzy with open arms and they all hit it off...especially after Izzy accidently dislocated a mean boy's shoulder during dodge ball. (LOL!!!)

Izzy's plan wasn't to make friends. It was to find the ghost and get rid of it. No matter how hard she tried and reminded herself that she was there for a job, and nothing more, she needed her friends in the end. She didn't realize what she had been missing out on since she didn't attend school and only had her mom and sister in her life.

A sidestory, and I'm guessing what will be the plot for the remaining books, is the story of Izzy's sister, Finley. She had disappeared before this story began. I'm guessing the remainder of the series will be Izzy, her mom, and a new friend (hint, hint) trying to find Finley.

I thoroughly enjoyed School Spirits! This is definitely a series I am looking forward to reading. I'll be at my local bookstore on release days!

Rating:
School Spirits is full of humor and lots of laughing happened. There were a couple of moments where my eyes got a little watery, and you'll see why when you read it! You HAVE to read School Spirits!

GOD BLESS EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED THE CAUSE TO SAVE SEA TURTLES FROM EXTINCTION!

I've always believed that magic hides in special places. As a child, people would often stare at my bright red hair, which was very, very bright
indeed.
Unfortunately, I developed a bad habit of making up rhymes about all of them, and they soon became funny characters. I didn't have much time to think about being different; fanciful lyricisms danced in my head, and no one was safe!
Since then, I've come to believe that storytelling has the power to inspire a deep love of language and learning. Words tripping off the tongue in somersaults that stick to your thoughts like taffy-- those are the things that stay forever in the mind.
I've lived in many special places: on a farm, in a city skyscraper, on a tropical beach, and in the beautiful country of France. Now I live in northern California, between the redwood forests and the sea. Even though I'm an adult, I'm still as silly as ever.
Many nice words have been used to describe my books, such as fun, engaging, delightful, and whimsical. Some folks say that I deliver timeless messages of love for kids and parents to share again and again; this makes me very happy. I hope that you'll enjoy my stories, too.
Captivating children with language is something that I believe in, and I strive to live my life with this always.

SHUCKED Book Blitz w/ Giveaway

Shucked by Megg Jensen
Publication date: April 14th 2013
Genre: YA Contemporary

Suburgatory meets Indiana Jones...on a farm

Fifteen-year-old Tabitha has had the kind of life that would impress even the greatest adventurers. She's escaped a croc attack in the Amazon, walked the length of the Great Wall of China, and earned a black belt in taekwondo in Korea. She owes her worldly experience to her mother's career in archaeology, but when her mother takes on a dangerous new assignment, Tabitha is devastated to learn she can't tag along.

Instead, she's forced to live on a midwestern farm with her grandparents where she'll have to attend a full year of public school. It's Tabitha's
greatest nightmare, because despite all her adventures, she has no practical experience with the one thing that frightens her the most - other teenagers.

Her math teacher is her mom's old high school boyfriend, she can't tell the friendly girls from the mean ones, and she develops a major crush on a boy she knows she can't trust. And just when she thinks she'll never get the hang of this normal teenager thing, an attack brings the danger of her previous life right up to her midwestern porch. Who could have ever guessed getting totally shucked would bring her face-to-face with her most exciting adventure yet?
Excerpt:

“Smith?” she barked at me. Yes, Smith is my last name. Unique, I know.

“Yes, Mrs. Jordan?” I asked in the sweetest voice I had.

“You,” she pointed at Becky, “hit the showers.”

Becky wiggled her fingers at me in a little wave. On the way to the locker room, she stubbed

her toe. Becky hopped precariously on one foot while massaging the other. I was dying to see her

walk a runway in heels after that.

I eyed the gym teacher. I’d been out of the country for a long time, but I was quite sure

mullets went out of style about twenty years ago. Someone forgot to give her the memo on that. If

Highlights Gone Wrong was a reality show, surely she'd be on it.

“You haven't signed up for a sports team yet.” Mrs. Jordan dropped next to me on the

bleachers, hiking up her pants as she sat. Legs spread wide, she rested her elbow on her knees, put

her chin in her hands, and stared at me.

“Sports team?” I repeated.

“There's nothing in your file about playing an instrument, right?”

I'd learned elementary didjeridu during a quick stint in Australia. I couldn't imagine they

had a section for that here. I shook my head.

“You are required to participate in an extra-curricular activity. Marching band is out. What

skills do you have?”

I thought quickly. I didn't want to end up on an awful team. Too short for volleyball. Too

slow for track. No penis for football. What did that leave me?

“I am a black belt in taekwondo,” I said, sure that I could get a spot on their martial arts

team. I could probably disable them all with a glance. I sat up straighter, my shoulders back.

Mrs. Jordan’s eyes widened. “Taekwondo? You beat people up?”

“Well, kind of,” I said, puffing up my chest with pride. Not many people would suspect tiny

me to be dangerous. I liked that. “It's more self-defense than attack strategies, but if pressed,

yes, I can hurt someone. I have this amazing jump-kick combination that never fails to knock

people off their feet. I also learned how to flip over someone's kick to avoid being hit. It's really

amazing.”

I stopped when I realized Mrs. Jordan was staring at me. Yes, I was babbling. Yes, maybe I

sounded a tad like Becky. But hey, how often did I get to discuss my martial arts experience with

a fellow fitness enthusiast? Mrs. Jordan didn't have an ounce of fat on her. Obviously she would

understand the amazing things the human body can accomplish when pushed.

“Perfect,” she said. “Then it's decided.” A smile spread across Mrs. Jordan's face. It echoed

on mine. Not only was I being invited to join their martial arts team, but I bet she was about to

make me captain.

“I'm honored,” I said.

“Wonderful!” Mrs. Jordan clapped me on the back. “You'll be a great addition to our

cheerleading squad.”

Birthday Celebration & Giveaway! IceyBooks (Hafsah) is 20!

There's something so grown-up with the number 20, huh? You're no longer a teenager, but still not fully considered an adult. Weird how that works, huh?

I know it's not quite Hafah's birthday since I'm EST and she's CST, but I couldn't wait the one more hour! It had to go up during my Midnight! :)

Anyway, I'm celebrating one of my favorite blogger's birthday with y'all! In honor of IceyBooks (Hafsah), I want to give away a book to one of you! Not just any book. No, no, no. This will be a book that the winner will get to choose from Hafsah's "Favorites" list!

This special day will be celebrated worldwide for a week; Saturday to Saturday! Beginning at Midnight EST on May 4 (Hafsah's birthday!) until 11:59 PM EST on May 11, enter to win one of Hafsah's favorites!

In case you're not aware of how amazingly awesome Hafsah is, you can find her at her review blog, (IceyBooks), her design blog (IceyDesigns), and Twitter (@IceyBooks).

Hafsah designed my blog, gave me my "about the author" description, and she is my go-to when I need help on so many things. To be going on 20, she knows so much! I am definitely thankful that she came into my life. Thank you Twitter!!! :)

I also have a special message from Hafsah's sister, Asma! If you're not following Asma, you should (Twitter: @IceyAsma)! She also blogs with Hafsah at IceyBooks.

You all probably know my older sister, Hafsah. But truth be told you
don't spend every day with her. I do. And in my eyes, she does a lot
of things, she's funny, never gives up, and is a versatile person.

We all know that nobody is perfect. Sure, my older sister can be mean,
and sometimes grumpy but that doesn't happen often. She's respectful,
loves to help others, and has an infinite amount of patience for my
annoyingace - yeah that's a word.

I can tell her my ideas, be them wacky or interesting, and she will
always listen and tell me what she thinks. She's a genius too, helps
me with my extremely complicated work even though I don't understand a
thing. Yet she finds a way to drill it into my head.

There's no one else like her. I'm happy to say she's my sister.

And may the cake be ever in her favor!

Asma
Cute, right? Awww!
Now, back to the books!

The books that Hafsah has on her "Favorites" list are:

So, since this is a list of HAFSAH's favorites, the giveaway will be for one of these books. I want to stick with this list.

As always, you must be at least 13 to enter. Don't be a goober and try to cheat. This is just for fun and to celebrate a birthday for a wonderful blogger friend!
