Goodreads Summary & Cover
Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction—which means she’s the only one who can save it. Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom’s future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend.

But, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart . . . misses.

Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king’s army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. At least she’s not alone. She’s armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can’t stop thinking about. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her?

Kyra is not your typical murderer, and she’s certainly no damsel-in-distress—she’s the lovable and quick-witted hero of this romantic novel that has all the right ingredients to make teen girls swoon.
My Thoughts
To begin, let me say how cute this book was and that I really enjoyed each page! Also, note the pig on the cover. I didn't even notice it until I added the picture to this post! You will LOVE the pig!

Along with the pig, Rosie, you will also love the other characters. Kyra is out to save the kingdom and trying to keep away from the ever-adorable Fred so he doesn't find out who she is and what she has done.

The potion making, witches, gypsies, and even the really bad guy were all interesting.

The first half of the book, you journey with Kyra and meet Fred. She's always trying to get away from him. The way they keep bumping into one another is just humorous! His nickname for her is even more hilarious, especially with the reason behind it.

The second half of the book, the plot thickens. What you think is happening and what had happened just tossed you for a loop. I love that this book did that. A step like that in a story can some times be infuriating, but it completely worked for this story!

The ending and the revealing were pure perfection. As the summary states, this is definitely a book to make teen girls swoon. It was enough to make this grown woman grin and say, "Awww..." a lot!

Definitely pick it up and read it. You won't regret it!

My Rating
It is so amazing that this book was published by Disney after the author's passing. So sad to read that about her, but happy for her husband to see one of her dreams come to be.

  2. There's a pig? Okay, I'm sold.

No, really, I recently read about the author's passing. It's so sad, but wonderful to see the authors who have gotten together to make sure her contribution to the genre doesn't go unnoticed.
